Several years ago while vacationing on Maui, I strolled into an antique store in the tiny town of Paia.  In a glass case there was a very old wooden box and inside was a wonderful mahjong set.  I don't play mahjong, but the tiles were so intriguing and beautiful - sturdy little blocks carved in whale bone with bamboo backings!  My first thought, of course, was what wonderful jewelry could be made with these pieces.  I made this pendant with one of those tiles.  A sterling silver cast twig sits at the top and a 10mm carnelian bead dangles at the bottom.  The hidden bail allows me to switch chains or neckrings.  I think it's a lovely piece!
